As a previous reviewer noted, the fan on this thing never switches off. I used it for a while and then ultimately could no longer live with it. Especially since you cannot put it on an external timer because it will not automatically restart. The internal timer works for 24 hours, so, pretty much useless. There are definitely dehumidifiers available that do have a pump and also do not have these problems, notably the ones made by winix (which are about $150 more).
Finally it was returned.
If you need a dehumidifier which is effective, has a pump, but doesn't require automatic restart or automatic fan shut down, then fo gor it!

I purchased this item for my basement Once it arrived, I unpaced it, pluged it in, turned it on, and it work as hoped. The one thing I'm not sure of is that the fan run all the time; the compressor turns on and off. I called the company and they assured me this was correct operating procedure and said newer units work this way. I'm well pleased with the unit's performance.

I bought this on the strength of my experience with other DeLonghi products, and so far I haven't been disappointed. It's quieter than I expected, and can really get the humidity down in my 200-year-old basement. We'll see how it works when we're away during the summer, but the pump feature is a real plus.
